If you're writing something boring, stop. Omission is more easily forgiven than dullness.

Readers hate to be bored. If you find yourself covering something that a reader won't enjoy reading then cut it short or remove it. If it really is essential that the reader knows this stuff, at least make it easy to skip -- and easy to find later once they realize it's important.

Boring books are the ones that get those miserable "this is just like the documentation" reviews. A good book will always leave the reader hungry for more -- leave out the boring bits.
